Although La Honda residents were able to return back to their residences weeks ago, CalFire didn’t declare the CZU Lightning Complex fire 100% contained until September 22.

The CZU fire was the largest in San Mateo County history. CalFire reported that the fire burned 86,509 acres, destroyed 1,490 structures, damaged another 140 structures, killed one person, and injured a firefighter.

Many thanks again to the La Honda Fire Brigade Chief, Ari Delay, and his team of 14 volunteer firefighters who helped stop the CZU fire that threatened our town.

To see the damage caused by the CZU fire to the Santa Cruz mountains, note the change from green vegetation before the fire to brown in areas destroyed by the fire in the above photos (from Geert Garentsen on twitter).
